Doors in Pakistan: Wooden, PVC, Steel, Glass and Sliding Options
Choosing doors in Pakistan means balancing looks, security, moisture, termites and budget, and the best door for a main entrance is rarely the best door for a bathroom. This guide compares the main materials, matches them to each room, explains frames, sizes and finishes and shows the one door figure we publish, so you can plan before you ask for a quote. Use the guides below for each type, from wooden doors and PVC doors to steel and iron doors.
Door materials compared
Every door is a choice between weight, water resistance, security and cost. This table sets the main materials side by side.
| Material | Strengths | Limits | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid wood | Strong, natural, repairable | Heavy, moves with humidity, costs most | Main entrances under cover |
| MDF or engineered wood | Stable, smooth, many finishes | Water damages the core | Bedrooms, lounges, offices |
| PVC and fiber | Waterproof, light, termite-proof | Fewer premium looks | Bathrooms, kitchens, balconies |
| uPVC | Rigid, weather-sealed, low upkeep | Limited colours and styles | Balconies, patios, windows |
| Steel and iron | Highest security, fire-resistant options | Heavy, can rust, fewer looks | Main gates, shops, stores |
| Glass | Light and openness | Privacy and safety need planning | Patios, offices, living rooms |

Which door for which room
Match the door to what the room asks of it.
| Room | Good choices | Why |

| Bedrooms and lounges | MDF flush or panel doors | Smooth finish, good value |
| Bathrooms | PVC or fiber doors | Waterproof and light |
| Kitchens | PVC, laminate-faced or glass doors | Wipeable and moisture-tolerant |
| Balconies and patios | uPVC, glass or sliding doors | Light and weather resistance |
| Shops and garages | Steel doors, rolling shutters | Security and quick access |
More detail: how to choose a door for each room.
Sizes and the opening
Most room doors are commonly about 7 ft high and 3 ft wide, with narrower leaves for bathrooms and wider or double leaves for entrances. Measure the finished opening, not the old door, and allow for the frame and the gap. Our guide to standard door sizes lists the usual dimensions and how to measure.
The frame matters as much as the leaf
A good leaf in a weak frame fails early. The frame, often called chokhat, carries the weight and the hinges, and it must match the wall thickness and the door material. Wood, steel, MDF and PVC frames each suit different doors, and our door frame guide explains how to choose.
What a door costs: the figure we publish
Door cost varies widely with material, size, finish and hardware, so we do not publish a price list. The one planning figure on our construction rates page is about PKR 22,000 per door, covering leaf, frame and hardware, with a market range of PKR 13,000 - 45,000. Treat it as a planning number for a typical house, not a quote.

Finish, colour and design
Finish sets the look and the upkeep. Natural polish shows the grain, veneer and laminate give consistent colour, and paint suits PVC and steel. Browse door design ideas, entrance door styles and door colour ideas to match your floors and walls, and see CNC door design for carved patterns.
Hinges, locks and hardware
Three sturdy hinges for a heavy leaf, a proper lock set and a door stopper complete a door. Locks range from simple mortise sets to digital models, and our door lock price guide compares them. Always ask whether hardware is inside the quoted price.
Fitting and aftercare
A well-made door still fails if it is fitted badly. The frame must be plumb and level, the gap even and the hinges secure. Read the door installation guide before work starts, and seal wooden doors on all edges, including the top and bottom, to slow moisture damage.

There is no single best door. Use solid or engineered wood and steel for entrances, MDF flush doors for bedrooms and lounges, and PVC or fiber doors for bathrooms and kitchens where water is present. Match each door to the room, its moisture and its security needs, then set the budget.
Our published planning figure is about PKR 22,000 per door including leaf, frame and hardware, with a market range of PKR 13,000 to 45,000. Real prices depend on material, size, finish and hardware, so send the opening size and the type you want for a written quote.
PVC and fiber doors are the usual choice because they do not absorb water, swell or attract termites. They are also light and easy to clean. Avoid untreated MDF and natural wood in wet bathrooms, and seal the frame and the bottom edge of any door that stays.
Room doors are commonly around 7 ft high and 3 ft wide, with bathroom doors often narrower and entrance or double doors wider. Always measure your finished opening and confirm the leaf and frame sizes with the supplier, because older houses and custom openings vary.
A wooden door gives a premium look and can be repaired, but it needs protection from moisture and termites. A PVC door resists water and pests and is lighter, but offers fewer premium styles. Choose wood for dry, visible areas and PVC for wet or utility rooms.
It depends on the supplier and the type. Some doors are sold as a leaf only and others as a set with the frame and hardware. Always ask what the quote includes, since a cheap leaf with a separate frame, lock and fitting can cost more than a complete set.
Yes, many suppliers make doors to measure for non-standard openings, though custom sizes cost more and take longer. Measure the finished opening carefully and give height, width, wall thickness and the number of leaves. Standard sizes are cheaper and easier to replace later.
Send the opening size, the room, the material you prefer and a photo on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the leaf, frame, finish and hardware, so you can compare quotes on the same scope before you decide.
