PVC Bathroom Doors: Sizes, Thickness, Frames and Care

PVC bathroom doors are the default choice for wet rooms in Pakistan because they shrug off steam, splashes and cleaning water. The differences between a good one and a poor one show up in thickness, core, frame and hardware. This guide covers sizes, how thick the leaf should be, which frame and hinges to pair it with, how it is fitted and how to look after it. For the wider comparison with other materials, see bathroom doors.

Why PVC suits a bathroom

PVC does not absorb water, so it cannot swell, peel or rot, and termites have nothing to eat. The surface wipes clean, and the leaf is light enough for small hinges. It costs less than most waterproof alternatives. See PVC doors for the material in general.

Usual sizes

Bathroom openings are often narrower than room openings, so measure the finished opening and the swing clearance. Our standard door sizes guide lists usual leaf sizes. Confirm the size with the supplier before you order, especially in older houses.

Leaf thickness and core

A thicker, foam-filled leaf feels firmer, holds hinges and locks better and sounds less hollow than a thin hollow one. For a bathroom used daily by a family, the extra thickness is worth it. Check the leaf for flatness and evenly sealed edges.

Frame and hinges

Pair the leaf with a PVC or well-sealed frame, since a wooden frame in a wet room will rot. Use stainless hinges and screws, and read about the door frame options. Fix the frame plumb and seal the joint to the wall.

Fitting and ventilation

Leave a small gap at the bottom for air, fit a privacy lock and keep the frame sealed at floor level. Add an exhaust fan, because PVC cannot fix a damp room by itself.

Care and cleaning

Wipe with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents that dull the surface. Check hinges and the lock each year and lubricate if they stiffen.

Bathroom PVC Doors: Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. PVC does not absorb water, swell, rot or attract termites, so it handles steam and splashes well, wipes clean and is light and affordable. Quality varies, so choose a thicker leaf, a sealed frame and rust-resistant hardware for the best long-term result.

Bathroom openings are often narrower than room openings, so sizes vary. Measure the finished opening after plaster and tiles, check the swing clearance and confirm the leaf and frame sizes with the supplier. Older houses and custom openings often differ from standard sizes.

A thicker, foam-filled leaf feels firmer and holds hinges and locks better than a thin hollow one. Exact thickness varies by product, so ask for the measured figure and the core type in writing and press the leaf to check for flex before you buy.

A PVC frame or a well-sealed steel frame suits wet rooms, because a plain wooden frame can rot in constant damp. Fit the frame plumb, seal the joint with the wall and use stainless hinges and screws so nothing rusts in the steam.

Small chips and scratches can be filled and touched up, and loose hinges can be re-fixed with longer screws. Severe cracks or bowing usually mean replacing the leaf. Check the frame and the wall fixings first, since a loose frame causes many problems.

Send the opening size and a photo on WhatsApp, with the finish you prefer. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the leaf, frame, hinges and lock so you can compare quotes on the same scope.
