Bathroom Doors in Pakistan: Waterproof Materials, Sizes, Locks and Ventilation
Bathroom doors live in steam, splashes and damp air, so the wrong material swells, peels or rots within a year or two. The right door is waterproof, light, easy to wipe and fitted with hardware that does not rust. This guide compares the usual materials, explains sizes, privacy, locks and ventilation and shows how to fit and care for a door in a wet room. For the most common choice in detail, see PVC bathroom doors.
Waterproof materials compared
Water decides the choice.
| Material | Water resistance | Feel and look | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| PVC | Excellent | Light, plain or wood-look | Most common and affordable |
| Fiber | Excellent | Moulded panels, light | Check thickness and core |
| Aluminium with glass or panel | Excellent | Slim, modern | Needs privacy glass |
| Laminate over sealed core | Good if edges sealed | Warm wood look | Sealing is critical |
| Plain wood or MDF | Poor | Natural | Avoid in wet rooms |

Sizes and the opening
Bathroom openings are often narrower than room doors, so measure the finished opening before you choose a leaf. Our standard door sizes guide lists the usual dimensions. Check that the door swings without hitting a basin or a toilet, and that the leaf clears any tile step or threshold at the floor.
Privacy and glass
Frosted, reeded or patterned glass lets light through while keeping privacy, and a solid leaf is the simplest option. Avoid clear glass in a bathroom. If you want light, see glass doors for safety glass options.
Locks, hinges and rust
Choose stainless steel or brass hinges and locks, since cheap plated hardware rusts quickly in steam. A privacy lock with an emergency release is a good safety choice. Fit three hinges on taller leaves, and check the screws are corrosion-resistant.

Ventilation gaps and louvres
A bathroom needs airflow to dry out, because trapped steam is what damages doors, paintwork and grout over time. A small gap at the bottom, a louvre panel or a vent in the leaf helps moisture escape. Combine this with an exhaust fan or a window. Poor ventilation causes mould, which no door material can prevent.
Fitting and care
Seal the frame joint with sealant, keep the bottom clear of standing water and wipe the door with a mild cleaner. Check the hinges every year, and lubricate if needed. A door that sticks after rain is usually swollen, which suggests a material that does not suit the room.

Bathroom Doors: Frequently Asked Questions
PVC and fiber doors are the usual choices because they do not absorb water, swell or attract termites, and they are light and easy to wipe. Aluminium frames with privacy glass are another waterproof option. Avoid plain wood and untreated MDF in wet bathrooms.
It is risky in a wet bathroom, since steam and splashes swell and rot natural wood and MDF. If you want a wooden look, use a laminate or veneer finish on a waterproof core, seal every edge and keep the door well ventilated. A PVC door is more reliable.
Bathroom doors are often narrower than room doors, because the openings are smaller. Measure the finished opening and check swing clearance against the basin and the toilet before you order. Confirm the leaf and frame sizes with the supplier, especially in older houses.
Choose stainless steel or brass hinges, locks and screws, and avoid cheap plated hardware. Keep the bottom of the door dry, wipe splashes and ventilate the room. Rust usually appears on hinges and lock cases first, so check them every year.
A small gap or a louvre helps air circulate and lets moisture escape, which reduces mould. Combine it with a fan or a window for real ventilation. Make sure the gap is small enough for privacy, and keep it clear of standing water.
