Porcelain Tiles: Dense Body, Finishes, Large Formats and Indicative Prices

Porcelain tiles are made from finer clay fired at a higher temperature, which makes them dense, hard and very low in water absorption. That is why they are the usual choice for floors, bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor areas, and why large-format porcelain slabs look so clean in modern homes. They cost more than ceramic and are harder to cut, so they need a good installer. This guide covers types, finishes, formats, where they suit and indicative prices. For the lighter-duty alternative, see ceramic tiles.

What makes porcelain different

Porcelain has a dense body that absorbs very little water, usually under about 0.5 per cent for true porcelain, so it resists stains, frost and heavy use better than ceramic. The colour often runs through the body, so chips are less visible.

Finishes

Choose the finish for the place.

Large formats

Large these tiles give fewer joints and a seamless look, but need a flat base, more adhesive and careful handling. See tile sizes in Pakistan for formats.

Where porcelain suits

Use porcelain on floors, in wet rooms, in kitchens, on balconies and outdoors, and on busy floors in shops and offices. See outdoor tiles for exterior use.

Indicative prices

Porcelain costs more than basic ceramic.

ItemIndicative range

Cutting and fixing

Porcelain is hard and needs a good cutter, a flat base and the right adhesive. Back-buttering large tiles and using a levelling system give a flat result. See tile adhesive and bond.

How we quote

Send the room size, a sketch or photo and the finish you like. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists every item. Before you order, confirm the exact size or model, ask for the specification and warranty in writing, and compare totals including fitting and delivery rather than the item price alone. To get a close first estimate, clear the area, mark sockets, switches and pipe positions, note the ceiling height and photograph the space from two corners.

Frequently Asked Questions

these tiles are made from fine clay fired at high temperature, giving a dense, hard body that absorbs very little water. They suit floors, wet rooms and outdoor areas and come in polished, matte, textured and stone or wood looks. They cost more than ceramic.

Yes, generally. Porcelain is harder, denser and absorbs very little water, so it resists wear, stains and frost better. Ceramic costs less and suits walls and light-use floors. For wet or heavy-use floors, porcelain is the safer choice. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.

Polished porcelain can be slippery when wet, so choose matte or textured anti-slip finishes for bathrooms, porches and outdoor areas. Check the slip rating on the box, and keep polished tiles to dry indoor areas. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the supplier before ordering.

Indicative prices are about PKR 150 to 185 per sq ft for mid-range 600 x 600 mm porcelain-type tiles and PKR 1,000 to 3,000 or more for imported porcelain, with laying at PKR 40 to 100 per sq ft.

Yes, with an anti-slip finish and a rating suited to outdoor use. Porcelain absorbs very little water and handles heat and rain well. Use the right adhesive, leave expansion joints in large areas and slope for drainage. If in doubt, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.

Send the room size, the tile size you prefer and a photo of the space on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the tile, the boxes needed with wastage and the adhesive and grout, so you can compare quotes on the same scope.
