LED Bulbs: Watts, Lumens, Base Types, Colour and Price Ranges
LED bulbs have replaced old bulbs in nearly every Pakistani home because they use a fraction of the power and last for years. The choices that matter are the lumens, the base type, the colour and the quality of the driver, and the watt number alone no longer tells you how bright a bulb is. This guide explains watts and lumens, bases, colour, dimmable and smart bulbs, quality checks and indicative price ranges. For room-by-room brightness, see our LED bulb watt guide.
Watts and lumens
Lumens measure light output. As a rough guide, a 5 W LED gives about 400 lumens, 7 W about 600, 9 W about 800, 12 W about 1,000 to 1,100 and 15 W about 1,400 to 1,500. Compare lumens on the pack, and use the watt figure only to estimate running cost.
| LED watts | Approx. lumens | Roughly replaces |
|---|---|---|
| 5 W | About 400 | 40 W old bulb |
| 7 W | About 600 | 50 W old bulb |
| 9 W | About 800 | 60 W old bulb |
| 12 W | About 1,000 - 1,100 | 75 to 100 W old bulb |
| 15 W | About 1,400 - 1,500 | 100 W old bulb |
Approximate figures; actual output varies by brand.

Bases: B22 and E27
Two bases are common in Pakistan: the B22 bayonet pin and the E27 screw, plus small E14 for candle bulbs and GU10 for spots. Check the holder before buying. Many bulbs come in both B22 and E27 versions.
Colour temperature
Warm white, 2700 to 3000 K, suits living rooms and bedrooms, neutral white around 4000 K suits kitchens and studies and daylight around 6500 K suits garages and workspaces. Keep one colour in each room.
Dimmable and smart bulbs
Dimmable bulbs need a compatible dimmer, and smart or RGB bulbs add colour and app control at a higher price. Basic bulbs are fine for most rooms, and smart bulbs suit lounges and children's rooms.

How to avoid poor bulbs
Very cheap bulbs may overstate their watts, flicker or fail within months. Choose a recognised brand with a warranty, check the lumens and keep the receipt. See SMD lights for what is inside.
How we quote
Send the room size, a sketch or photo and the finish you like. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists every item. Before you order, confirm the exact size or model, ask for the specification and warranty in writing, and compare totals including fitting and delivery rather than the item price alone. To get a close first estimate, clear the area, mark sockets, switches and pipe positions, note the ceiling height and photograph the space from two corners.

Frequently Asked Questions
Choose by lumens. Roughly, 5 W gives about 400 lumens, 7 W about 600, 9 W about 800 and 12 W about 1,000 to 1,100. Plan the total light for the room, and use several bulbs instead of one very bright one. Ask for the specification in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.
B22 is a bayonet pin base that you push and twist, and E27 is a screw base. Both are common in Pakistan, and many bulbs come in both versions. Check the holder in your fitting before you buy. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.
Warm white, around 2700 to 3000 K, relaxes the eye and suits bedrooms and living rooms. Use neutral white around 4000 K in kitchens and studies, and daylight around 6500 K only where you want a crisp, bright look. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the supplier before ordering.
Indicative ranges are PKR 150 to 250 for basic LED bulbs of 5 to 18 W, from PKR 400 for vintage filament styles and PKR 920 to 2,450 for smart app-controlled bulbs. Prices vary with brand and quality, so confirm current rates. Prices and stock change, so confirm the current position before you commit.
Good ones do, if the driver and heat control are well made, but very cheap bulbs often fail early. Choose a recognised brand with a warranty, avoid covering bulbs in tight fittings and keep the receipt in case you need to claim. If in doubt, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.
Send the room size, the ceiling height and a photo on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the fixture, the wattage and the bulbs or driver, so you can compare it with other quotes and with the indicative ranges on this page.
