Kitchen Design Services: What a Good Service Includes and What to Ask
Kitchen design services take a kitchen from a bare room to a working plan: measuring the site, agreeing a layout, choosing materials, issuing a written quote and managing the fitting. The quality of the service decides whether the kitchen fits, works and arrives on time. This guide explains the stages, what should be in a quote, what to ask any provider and how to compare them. Our full interior fit-outs include MDF joinery in Lahore, and we confirm the scope for kitchens on request. See kitchen cabinets for the product side.
The stages of a kitchen project
A good service follows a clear sequence.
| Stage | What happens | What you should get |
|---|---|---|
| Brief | How you cook, budget, style | A short written brief |
| Site measure | Walls, pipes, gas, electrics | A measured drawing |
| Design | Layout, materials, appliances | A plan and elevations |
| Quote | Items, specifications, price | A written itemised quote |
| Order and make | Boards and hardware ordered, cabinets made | A dated schedule |
| Fit and handover | Cabinets, countertop, fittings | A snag list and sign-off |

Measuring and marking the services
Accurate measurements decide everything. A good service measures after plaster and, ideally, after tiling, and marks gas, water, drainage and electrical points. Walls are rarely square, so the plan allows for it.
Layout and material advice
The planner should ask how you cook, propose a layout, explain materials and show the trade-offs. See kitchen layouts guide and materials compared to prepare your questions.
What a quote should list
An itemised quote lists the layout, the board and thickness, the door finish, the hardware brand, the countertop, the sink, accessories, fitting, delivery and payment stages. Vague quotes cause disputes. Our kitchen design with prices page shows how to read costs.

Questions to ask any provider
- Who measures and who designs?
- Which board and hardware brand, and in writing?
- What is the schedule, and what happens if it slips?
- What is the warranty and who honours it?
- Who fits it, and is fitting included?
Own carpenter or a full service
You can use a full service for one point of responsibility, or buy materials and have your own carpenter build. We supply boards and hardware and confirm what else we can supply for each job. Choose by how much you want to manage yourself.
How we quote
Send the room size, a sketch or photo and the finish you like. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists every item. Before you order, confirm the exact size or model, ask for the specification and warranty in writing, and compare totals including fitting and delivery rather than the item price alone. To get a close first estimate, clear the area, mark sockets, switches and pipe positions, note the ceiling height and photograph the space from two corners.

Frequently Asked Questions
A good service includes a brief, a site measure, a layout and material plan, an itemised written quote, ordering and making, fitting and a handover check. Ask each provider to list exactly what is included and what is extra, so you can compare them on the same scope.
Not always. A simple kitchen can be planned with a good carpenter, but a designer helps with layouts, clearances, storage and appliances, and can avoid costly mistakes. For open, island or complex kitchens, professional planning usually pays for itself. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.
Ideally after plastering and, if possible, after tiling, because both change the finished dimensions. Services should be marked at the same visit. Measuring too early leads to gaps, misfits and last-minute changes that cost time and money. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the supplier before ordering.
The layout, the board and thickness, the door finish, hardware brands, countertop, sink, accessories, fitting, delivery and the payment stages. A written, itemised quote prevents disputes, and it lets you compare providers on the same specification line by line.
Often yes, if your carpenter is experienced, and it can lower cost, but you manage the cutting list and quality. A full service costs more and gives one point of responsibility. We supply boards and hardware and confirm what else we can supply for each job.
Send the room size, a photo or sketch and the finish you prefer on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the boards, hardware and fittings, so you can compare quotes from different suppliers on the same scope.
