How the market is layered
The market has three layers. Local brands such as Clopal and TJ Electric compete on price and sell many series. Mid brands such as Orange Electric, Himel and INGCO sit in the middle. International names such as Clipsal by Schneider and Legrand sit at the top. Opal, Aqua and other series names appear within these ranges.
Indicative starting prices
Starting prices show the entry point of each brand, not the price of a full series. They help you judge a quote and are not a price list from any maker.
| Item | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| Clopal switch or socket, from | About PKR 190 - 200 |
| TJ Electric, from | About PKR 250 |
| Clipsal by Schneider, from | About PKR 280 - 550 |
| Himel, from | About PKR 300 - 950 |
| Orange Electric, from | About PKR 310 - 1,200 |

| Legrand, from | About PKR 525 - 1,150 |
| 13 A switched socket, premium series | PKR 1,070 - 2,590 |
Prices move with brand, model, size and stock. Use these ranges to judge a quote, then compare the exact model and what is included.

What you pay more for
As you move up, you get brass contacts, thicker plastic, better springs, shuttered sockets, stronger screws and a finish that does not yellow. You also get a wider choice of modules, such as dimmers, USB points and smart units. In a house you live in for years, a better switch is among the cheapest upgrades to make.
Quality checks
- Weight. Heavier usually means more brass.
- Click feel. A firm, short click lasts longer.
- Shutters. Sockets should have safety shutters.
- Marking. Rating and brand should be printed or moulded in.
- Fit. The plate should sit flat in the wall box.

Choosing by room
Bedrooms and lounges suit a good series with a neat finish and a fan regulator module. Kitchens need sockets with shutters and enough points for appliances. Bathrooms and outdoors need splash-protected plates and an RCCB upstream. Plan the number of points before plaster, and see electric sockets and wall switches.
Smart and USB options
Most major series offer USB sockets, dimmers and smart modules. For phone-controlled switches, see smart switches in Pakistan. Check that the module fits your plate and that the load rating suits the appliance.
How to choose well
Pick one series for the whole house, so plates match. Buy a few extra modules for later. Compare the price of a complete plate set, not a single switch, and ask for the rating on each module. Our plug and socket guide explains ratings.
Ask the seller for the rating of each module and for the warranty, and check that the plate has the same depth as your wall boxes, since a deep plate in a shallow box strains the wires. Order two or three percent extra modules, because a damaged plate during fitting is common and a matching replacement may be out of stock later.
Fitting and safety
Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician, with the correct wire size, tight terminals and a protected circuit. A loose terminal burns the module, so the quality of fitting matters as much as the brand. See our wire and cable guide for sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Clopal and TJ Electric are widely used local brands. Orange Electric, Himel and INGCO sit in the middle, and Clipsal by Schneider and Legrand are international names. Opal and Aqua appear as series names. Compare the series, not only the brand.
Entry prices start at about PKR 190 to 200 for local brands. Clipsal and Legrand start from about PKR 280 to 1,150, and a premium 13 A switched socket costs about PKR 1,070 to 2,590, depending on series and finish.
For a house you live in for years, yes. Better switches have brass contacts, shutters, thicker plastic and a finish that lasts. The extra cost is small compared with the cost of replastering a wall to change a failed plate.
A good one is heavier, has a firm click, has safety shutters on sockets and shows the rating and brand clearly. A bad one feels light, clicks softly and has thin contacts that heat up under load. Open one if the seller allows it.
You can, but plates will not match and some modules will not fit another series. For a neat look, choose one series for the whole house and buy a few spares. Mixing is fine for outdoor or utility areas. Keep a spare plate of the series you choose.
