Plug Socket Price in Pakistan: 2 Pin and 3 Pin Plugs, 13 A and 15 A Sockets, Fused Plugs and Brand Ranges

Plug socket price in Pakistan runs from about PKR 60 for a plain plug to over PKR 2,500 for a premium switched socket, and the gap comes from the brand, the rating and the build. A plug and socket pair connects an appliance to the wiring, and a poor one gets warm, sparks or melts. This page explains the 2 pin and 3 pin types, the 13 A and 15 A ratings, indicative rates by brand and what to check before you buy. Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician. For the wider range, see switches and sockets and electric sockets.

2 pin and 3 pin types

A 2 pin plug has live and neutral pins and suits small double-insulated devices such as chargers. A 3 pin plug adds an earth pin and suits appliances with a metal body, like a fridge, an iron or a geyser. Pakistani homes use both a round-pin pattern and the flat three-pin pattern, so check which one your wall plates and appliances use.

13 A and 15 A ratings

A 13 A socket handles about 2,800 watts at 220 V and suits most household appliances. A 15 A socket is built for heavy loads such as an air conditioner or a geyser. Match the plug, the socket, the wire and the breaker to the same rating, since the weakest part decides the safe limit.

What a good plug and socket look like

  • Brass contacts. They stay tight and run cooler than thin iron strips.
  • Shuttered sockets. A shutter keeps children from poking objects in.
  • Fuse in the plug. A fused 13 A plug protects the appliance cable.
  • Strong body. Flame-retardant plastic that does not crack.
  • Clear marking. The rating and brand are printed or moulded in.

Fitting a socket

Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician. The wire must be sized for the load, the live must go to the live terminal, and the earth must be connected. A loose terminal burns, so the screws must be tight. Plan the position, count and height of sockets before plaster and tiles, so you do not need extension boards later. See extension boards for safe use where needed.

Smart and USB sockets

USB sockets charge phones without adaptors. Smart plugs and wall sockets switch loads from a phone and measure usage; see smart switches for the range. Choose a unit with a clear current rating, since a smart plug rated 10 A should not run a heater.

Choosing a brand

Local and imported brands both sell good sockets. Look at the weight, the finish and the markings, and read our switch and socket brands guide for a neutral comparison of the tiers. The cheapest unmarked plug is a false saving, because an overheated socket can damage the wall plate and wire.

Common faults and replacements

A warm plug, a black mark around the pins, a loose fit or a buzzing sound means a fault. Replace the plug or socket, check the wire and the load and do not keep using a damaged one. A fused plug with a blown fuse often shows that an appliance is faulty, so check it before fitting a bigger fuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

A basic plug costs about PKR 60 to 530, a branded 13 A plug about PKR 430 to 710, a local switched socket about PKR 190 to 300 and a mid-brand 13 A switched socket about PKR 1,070 to 1,140. Premium sockets cost up to about PKR 2,590.

A 2 pin plug has live and neutral pins only and suits small double-insulated devices. A 3 pin plug adds an earth pin and suits appliances with a metal body, such as fridges, irons and geysers. Use the earthed type whenever the appliance has an earth wire.

A 13 A socket handles about 2,800 watts and suits most household appliances. A 15 A socket is built for heavy loads such as an air conditioner or a geyser. The plug, the socket, the wire and the breaker must all match the same rating.

A warm plug means a loose fit, a thin contact or an overload. Unplug it and check the pins and the socket. Replace a plug or socket with burn marks. A socket that gets warm again may need a new wire or a heavier rated unit.

Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician. Switch off the breaker first. A wrong earth connection or a loose terminal can cause shock or fire. Plug replacement on an appliance lead is simpler, but the earth and fuse must be correct.
