Wall Paneling in Pakistan: Types, Ideas and Rates

Main styles of wall paneling

Panelling means covering a wall, wholly or in part, with panels instead of paint or plaster alone. It started in timber and today includes light, waterproof plastics and composites. Five styles cover most projects:

• Flat panels: a smooth, continuous surface in a plain colour, wood grain or marble look.
• Raised or framed panels: moulded frames that give a classic, boxed look.
• Half-height panelling: panels to chair-rail height with a rail above and paint on the upper wall, economical and protective.
• Fluted and slatted panels: vertical grooves that add depth and suit TV and headboard walls.
• 3D relief panels: geometric or wave patterns that make a statement feature wall.

Each approach changes the room differently: flat panels give a clean surface, raised panels a classic feel, and half-height panels keep costs down while protecting the lower wall from scuffs. For design inspiration, see our PVC wall panel designs.

What a panelled wall costs

PVC starts at Rs 75 per sq ft, WPC at Rs 150, and wood and MDF finishes at Rs 220 and above; installation is extra unless stated. For a 10 x 9 ft wall (90 sq ft), simple PVC panels with installation come to Rs 9,450 to 22,500, and fluted or WPC panels to Rs 21,600 to 31,500. Compared with tiling or heavy joinery, panelling is usually not expensive.

Ways to keep the cost down

• Panel one feature wall instead of the whole room.
• Use 4 or 6 mm PVC, or half-height panels with paint above.
• Choose a single colour instead of printed or textured designs.

Colours, patterns and finishes

White brightens small rooms; blue gives a calm, deep feature wall; grey is a safe neutral for offices and lounges; painted panels let you change the colour later; printed panels add a wood grain or pattern to a plain panel. Fabric-wrapped panels give a soft look in bedrooms and cinema rooms and also soften echo.

Pattern direction changes the room: vertical panels look taller, horizontal panels look wider, and boxed frames feel classic. Most good schemes mix two of these rather than all three. A dark oak look, without solid timber, comes from wood-look WPC or veneer panels, and a hidden cabinet door in the same pattern keeps a panelled wall flush.

How to measure and calculate

Multiply the wall width by its height to get sq ft, subtract doors and windows, then add about 10% for cuts. Measure at the top, middle and bottom, because walls are rarely square. A 10 x 9 ft wall is 90 sq ft, or about 99 sq ft with 10% for cuts.

For fitting, the order is: clean and dry the wall, mark level lines, fix a starter strip, then glue or batten each panel in sequence and finish with trims. PVC and WPC are the easiest for a first project. The full process is in our wall panel installation guide.
