Marble and Granite Tiles: Natural Stone Types, Sealing, Care and Price Ranges
Marble and granite tiles bring natural stone to floors, steps and walls, with patterns that no printed tile can copy exactly. Granite is hard and heat-tolerant, marble is softer and more elegant and both need proper laying, sealing and care. They cost more than ceramic and porcelain and vary a lot by variety and finish. This guide covers the two stones, finishes, sealing, care and indicative prices. For a specific stone, see our travertine page.
Marble against granite
The two stones behave differently.
| Stone | Strengths | Limits | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marble | Elegant, veined, cool | Softer; stains and etches with acids | Lounges, entrances, vanities |
| Granite | Very hard, heat and scratch tolerant | Heavy; needs sealing; seams show | Kitchens, steps, outdoors |
Natural stone varies slab to slab. View full samples before buying.

Finishes
Polished stone is glossy and shows the pattern but can be slippery, honed stone is matte and softer-looking and flamed or brushed granite gives grip outdoors. Choose by the place and the slip risk.
Sealing and care
Seal natural stone after laying and reseal as advised. Wipe spills quickly, especially acids and oils on marble, and use a pH-neutral cleaner. Marble can etch and stain, and granite is more forgiving.
Thickness and laying
Stone tiles are thicker and heavier than ceramic, so the base must be sound and flat. Use the right adhesive and leave slightly tighter joints for a neat look. Lay all the stone from the same lot for even colour.
Indicative prices
Stone tiles vary widely by variety and finish.

Yes. Natural stone is porous, so seal it after laying and reseal as advised. Wipe spills quickly, especially acids and oils on marble, and use a pH-neutral cleaner. Sealing slows staining but does not make marble stain-proof. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.
Indicative prices are about PKR 600 to 2,200 per sq ft for granite tiles and PKR 1,000 to 3,000 or more for imported marble and luxury stone, with laying at PKR 40 to 100 per sq ft. Stone polishing and sealing are often extra.
Polished marble can be slippery when wet, so use honed or textured finishes in bathrooms, porches and outdoor areas, and keep polished marble for dry indoor spaces. Check the finish and the slip rating before you decide.
