PVC Foam Board in Pakistan: Thickness, Density and What to Use It For
PVC foam board is a light, rigid, waterproof sheet with a fine closed-cell core, widely used for cabinets in wet rooms, signage, display stands, partitions and interior joinery. It is easy to cut, does not swell or rot and takes printing, laminate or paint. This guide covers sizes, thickness, density and the uses where it works best. It belongs to our PVC sheets range and links to the PVC board for furniture guide.
What foam board is
foam board is made by expanding PVC with gas during extrusion, which gives a rigid sheet with a fine closed-cell core and a smooth skin. Because the cells are closed, it does not absorb water, and because the core is light, a full sheet is much easier to handle than MDF or plywood of the same thickness.
It is usually white, but is also made in colours, and can be faced with laminate or film.

Sizes, thickness and density
The common sheet is 8 x 4 ft (2440 x 1220 mm). Thickness runs from about 1 mm to 30 mm. Thin sheets are used for signage and display work, 5 to 12 mm for partitions and panels, and 15 to 20 mm for cabinets and furniture. Density matters as much as thickness: a denser board is stronger and holds screws better but costs more.

Yes, the closed-cell core does not absorb water, so it does not swell or rot. It suits bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. Seal joints and fixing holes where water could get behind a unit, and keep the board away from direct flame.
Yes. With a suitable primer for plastics it can be painted, and it can be faced with HPL or film for a wood or colour finish. Use the right adhesive for laminate and seal the edges with a PVC edge band.
A dense 15 to 20 mm board is strong enough for cabinet carcasses and vanity units, especially with rails or supports on long shelves. For heavy loads or very long spans, use thicker board or a wood-based board such as HDHMR or plywood.
