Kitchen Blower Fan in Pakistan: Where to Mount It, Rubber Pads, Duct Connection, Noise Control, Speed Control and Common Problems

A kitchen blower fan is a strong centrifugal fan that pulls smoke and grease through a duct, and how it is installed matters more than its price. A badly fitted blower is loud, vibrates and wastes airflow, while a well fitted one is quiet and clears a busy kitchen quickly. This page focuses on installation: where to mount the blower, how to isolate vibration, how to connect the duct, how to control noise and speed and what commonly goes wrong. For choosing a blower see exhaust blower for kitchen and for the difference with a fan see kitchen blower.

Where to mount the blower

Mount the blower away from the kitchen, for example above a false ceiling in a service corridor or on the outside wall, so most of its noise stays outside the room. Keep it close enough to the hood that the inlet duct is short, and give it room for the outlet duct to run to an outside wall.

Isolating vibration

Blowers vibrate. Mount the body on rubber or spring pads and use a short flexible connector between the blower and the rigid duct. Do not fix the blower rigidly to the slab or a thin ceiling board, or the vibration becomes a drone in the room.

Connecting the duct

Connect the inlet duct from the hood with a clamp and seal with aluminium tape. Keep bends gentle and runs short. The outlet duct should slope very slightly down to the outside, end in a flap cap and be supported every metre. Match the duct size to the blower collar; see kitchen exhaust pipe.

Indicative rates

Rates depend on size, power and brand. These indicative ranges show common retail figures.

ItemIndicative range
Small kitchen blower, 6 inchPKR 4,700 - 13,900
Medium blower, 8 inchPKR 9,900 - 32,900
Large blower, 10 to 12 inchPKR 19,500 - 39,000
Speed controllerPKR 1,000 - 4,000
Rubber mounts and flexible connectorPKR 500 - 2,500
Fitting, per blowerPKR 2,000 - 6,000

Prices move with brand, model, size and stock. Use these ranges to judge a quote, then compare the exact model and what is included.

Noise control

Noise comes from the motor, the air and the duct. Use a larger blower at lower speed, add a flexible connector, avoid sharp bends and keep the duct clear of the slab. A variable speed control lets you run it gently for light cooking and strongly for frying.

Speed control

A speed controller made for the blower motor lets you adjust the speed. Do not use a light dimmer or a fan regulator not rated for the motor. Ask the supplier which controller suits the blower. Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician.

Common problems

  • Loud drone. Rigid mounting or a loose duct.
  • Weak suction. Too many bends or a pipe smaller than the collar.
  • Grease dripping. Duct sloping the wrong way.
  • Motor hot. Blocked duct or a dirty blower wheel.

Maintenance

Clean the blower wheel and the duct once a year in a busy kitchen, and wash hood filters monthly. Grease on the wheel unbalances it and adds noise. Keep access to the blower for cleaning, as explained in ceiling exhaust planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Away from the cooking area, such as above a false ceiling in a service corridor or on the outside wall, so most noise stays outside. Keep the inlet duct from the hood short. Ask for the specification in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

Usually rigid mounting, a loose duct, sharp bends or too small a duct. Mount it on rubber pads, use a flexible connector and keep the duct short and straight. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the seller before ordering.

Only a controller made for the blower motor. A light dimmer or a regulator not rated for the motor can damage it. Ask the supplier which controller to use. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the seller before ordering. Rates and stock change, so confirm the current position before you commit.

Very slightly down towards the outside, so grease and condensation run out and not back into the blower. End the duct in a flap cap on the outside wall. Rates and stock change, so confirm the current position before you commit. If you are unsure, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.

At least once a year in a busy kitchen, and wash hood filters monthly. Grease on the wheel causes imbalance and noise, so keep access to the unit for cleaning. If you are unsure, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.

Send the quantity, the size or rating and a photo of the space. We reply with a written rate that names the model and the warranty, and lists what is and is not included, so the comparison with other sellers is fair.
