Circuit Breaker Price in Pakistan: MCB, MCCB and RCCB Types, Amp Ratings, Brand Ranges and How to Choose

Circuit breaker price in Pakistan runs from about PKR 300 for a basic single-pole MCB to well over PKR 100,000 for a large moulded-case breaker, because the type, the amp rating and the brand all change the rate. A circuit breaker cuts the supply automatically when current is too high, which protects wires and appliances from overload and short circuit. This page explains the three main types, how to read the rating, indicative rates by brand and how to choose one. Panel work should be done by a licensed electrician. See the detail pages for MCB, MCCB and RCCB.

What a circuit breaker does

A circuit breaker is a switch that opens by itself when the current is higher than its rating. A thermal part reacts to a slow overload and a magnetic part reacts to a sudden short circuit. Unlike a fuse, a breaker is reset by hand, so it protects the wiring without being replaced each time it trips.

The three main types

Homes and small shops use three families, and each guards against something different.

TypeUsed forTypical rating
MCB, miniature circuit breakerLighting, sockets and single appliances6 to 63 A
MCCB, moulded case circuit breakerMain incomer, sub-mains, workshops63 to 1,600 A
RCCB, residual current breakerShock and earth leakage protection25 to 100 A

How to read a breaker rating

The label shows the current in amperes, the number of poles, the voltage and the breaking capacity in kiloamperes. The curve letter, such as B, C or D, shows how fast the breaker reacts to a surge. Home circuits usually use a C curve. Breaking capacity should be higher than the fault current at the panel, which is why a small-capacity breaker is a poor saving.

Choosing the right amp rating

The breaker rating must protect the wire, not just match the appliance. A common home layout uses 6 or 10 A for lighting, 16 or 20 A for sockets, and 32 A or more for an air conditioner or a geyser on its own line. Never fit a bigger breaker just to stop it tripping, because the wire may then overheat. A licensed electrician sizes the breaker from the load and the cable size. Our wire and cable guide explains cable sizes.

Where each breaker goes in a house

A typical house has a main breaker or an MCCB at the incomer, an RCCB for leakage protection and separate MCBs for each circuit in the distribution board. Heavy loads such as an air conditioner or a geyser get their own breaker. Keep a label on each way, so you can switch off the right circuit in an emergency.

Safety and good practice

Panel work should be done by a licensed electrician. Do not bypass a breaker with wire, do not mix undersized cable with a large breaker and keep the board dry and covered. If a breaker trips again and again, find the cause instead of fitting a bigger one. Genuine breakers are marked clearly and have the same weight and finish as the brand, so buy from a reliable seller.

Frequently Asked Questions

A basic single-pole MCB can cost about PKR 300 to 1,200, a two-pole MCB about PKR 900 to 2,500, an RCCB about PKR 4,500 to 13,000 and an MCCB from about PKR 4,600 to over PKR 147,000 for large frames, depending on brand and rating.

An MCB protects a circuit from overload and short circuit at lower currents. An MCCB does the same at higher currents and often has adjustable settings. An RCCB protects people from earth leakage and shock. A good panel normally uses all three.

An air conditioner usually needs its own breaker sized to its load and the cable, often 20 to 32 A for a home unit. A licensed electrician should confirm the rating, because the wire and the breaker must be matched.

A breaker trips because of overload, a short circuit or an earth fault. Unplug devices and reset it once. If it trips again, there is a fault, and an electrician should find it. Fitting a bigger breaker is dangerous because the wire may overheat.

Genuine breakers from reliable makers are safe. Fake or unbranded breakers may not trip when they should. Buy from a trusted seller, check the markings, the weight and the box, and avoid prices that look far below the market. Fake units can fail to trip when a real fault occurs.
