Electric Board Sheet Design: MDF, Acrylic, Wood and PVC Sheet Covers for Switch Boards, Finishes, Safety Rules and Sizing

📖 5 min read

Electric board sheet design is about covering or framing the switch board with a sheet so it blends into the wall instead of standing out as a plastic block. Popular choices include wooden or MDF sheets, acrylic panels, PVC sheets and tile-matching covers. This guide explains the designs, the materials, the safety rules you must keep, how to size and fit a sheet and indicative costs. It is informational, and a licensed electrician should confirm anything that touches the wiring. See also electric switches and electric board panels.

Why people cover switch boards

A plain plastic plate can clash with a feature wall, a wallpaper or a wood panel. A matching sheet makes the switches part of the design. It also lets you hide old marks and mismatched plates, and you can use the same finish as nearby cabinets or doors.

Popular designs

  • Wooden or MDF sheet. A framed, slightly raised border around the plates.
  • Acrylic panel. A smooth glossy or mirror-finish panel with cutouts for plates.
  • PVC sheet. A light, low-cost cover that matches wall panels.
  • Tile or stone strip. The switch board sits inside a strip matching the wall.
  • Backlit frame. A thin LED line behind the sheet for a glow.

Indicative costs

Costs depend on material, size and finish. These indicative ranges are for a typical 6 to 8 gang board and are not a quote.

ItemIndicative range
MDF frame with paint, per boardPKR 1,500 - 4,000
Veneer or wood finish framePKR 3,000 - 8,000
Acrylic panel with cutoutsPKR 2,500 - 8,000
PVC sheet coverPKR 800 - 2,500
LED backlight strip, per boardPKR 1,000 - 3,000

Prices move with brand, model, size and stock. Use these ranges to judge a quote, then compare the exact model and what is included.

Matching your walls

Pick the sheet to match the strongest finish in the room. On a wall panel feature wall, use the same panel profile around the board. On painted walls, a wood-tone frame adds warmth. In a TV lounge, match the TV unit finish. Keep colours calm so the sheet does not draw the eye more than the wall.

Safety rules

  • Never cover the switches. They must stay reachable.
  • Keep sheets non-combustible near heat. Do not use thin plastic near heavy loads.
  • Leave ventilation gaps. Dimmers and relays warm up.
  • Do not fix over live terminals. Switch off first.
  • Use a licensed electrician. Fixed wiring and plates are their work.

Sizing and fixing

Measure the plate width and height and add a border of about 1 to 2 inches. Cut openings with a small clearance so plates can be removed. Fix the sheet on the wall with screws or adhesive, never to the plate itself. A thin frame that sits flat around the plate is safest.

Modular plate choice

Choose a modular series with a slim frame so the sheet sits neatly. See switch and socket brands and switch board price list to plan the plates before you design the cover.

Planning with wiring

Plan the sheet before plaster and tiles so boxes are at the right height and aligned. Align switch boards with door frames and furniture lines. Fixed wiring should be done by a licensed electrician, and a protected circuit with an MCB should serve each board.

Cleaning and maintenance

Wipe sheets with a dry or slightly damp cloth, never with water near the plates. Acrylic scratches easily, so use a soft cloth. Check the sheet occasionally for warping or yellowing near heat, and replace it if it softens.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a sheet, frame or panel fitted around a switch board so it blends with the wall. Common choices are MDF, wood veneer, acrylic and PVC sheets, sometimes with a backlight. Ask for the specification in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

As a guide, an MDF frame with paint costs about PKR 1,500 to 4,000, a veneer frame about PKR 3,000 to 8,000, an acrylic panel about PKR 2,500 to 8,000 and a PVC cover about PKR 800 to 2,500. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.

It is safe if the switches stay fully reachable, the sheet does not touch live terminals or hot parts and ventilation is kept. Use non-combustible material near heavy loads, and ask a licensed electrician to check. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the seller before ordering.

No. Fix the sheet to the wall with screws or adhesive and leave openings so plates can be removed for service. A thin frame that sits flat around the plate is safest. Rates and stock change, so confirm the current position before you commit.

Match the strongest finish in the room, such as the TV unit, doors or wall panels. Keep colours calm so the sheet does not draw the eye more than the wall, and check samples in daylight. If you are unsure, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.

Send the quantity, the size or rating and a photo of the space. We reply with a written rate that names the model and the warranty, and lists what is and is not included, so the comparison with other sellers is fair.
