Tile Grout: Cement and Epoxy Types, Colour Choices, Joint Width and Care
Tile grout fills the joints between tiles and locks the surface together. It also sets the look: a matching colour makes tiles feel seamless, while a contrast draws the pattern. The right type depends on the room, since wet areas, kitchens and outdoor floors all stress grout differently. This guide covers types, colours, joint widths, sealing and care. It sits in our tile accessories group.
Cement and epoxy grout
Cement grout is the common choice, and epoxy grout resists stains and water better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Use sealed cement grout or epoxy grout in showers and wet floors, because they resist water and stains better than plain cement grout. Choose a colour close to the tile, keep joints even and ventilate the room to prevent mould. Ask for the specification in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.
A mid-tone grout, slightly darker than the tile, hides dirt and wear best on floors. A matching colour looks seamless, and strong contrast shows every joint. Test a sample, because grout looks lighter when dry. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.
About 2 mm for rectified large tiles, about 3 mm for most floor tiles and wider for rustic or uneven tiles. Check the tile maker's advice and use spacers to keep the joint width even across the whole surface. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the supplier before ordering.
Cement grout should be sealed in wet areas, kitchens and outdoor floors, and resealed as advised. Epoxy grout does not need sealing. Sealing slows staining and water absorption, which keeps joints cleaner for longer.
Scrub with a mild cleaner and a soft brush, rinse and dry the area. Improve ventilation, fix leaks and reseal cement grout afterwards. If joints are cracked or stay black, replace the grout, because moisture may be trapped behind. If in doubt, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.
Send the room size, the tile size you prefer and a photo of the space on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the tile, the boxes needed with wastage and the adhesive and grout, so you can compare quotes on the same scope.
