Plywood Sheets in Pakistan: Grades, Thickness and the Right Use for Each
Plywood sheets are the strongest of the common furniture boards and the first choice for beds, kitchen structures and long shelves. They are also the board with the widest gap between good and poor quality, because grade, glue and core vary so much. This guide explains how plywood is made, the grades you will be offered, the usual thicknesses and how to choose. It is part of our MDF and HPL sheets range.
How plywood is made
Plywood is built from thin layers of wood veneer glued together, each layer turned at right angles to the one below. The crossed grain makes the sheet resistant to splitting, warping and shrinking, which is why it is stronger and more stable than fibre boards of the same thickness.
Quality depends on the number and thickness of the layers, the wood used for the core, and above all the glue. A sheet with gaps or soft spots in the core will fail under load or in damp air, however good it looks on the face.

Plywood grades: commercial, BWR and marine
Plywood is usually sold by moisture grade. The names below are the ones dealers use most, and the glue type is what separates them.
| Item | Size | Material only or installed | Supply area | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Commercial plywood | 8 x 4 ft, by thickness | Material only | Supply across Pakistan | PKR 3,600 – 6,000 per 12 mm sheet |
| BWR plywood | 8 x 4 ft, by thickness | Material only | Supply across Pakistan | PKR 5,500 – 9,000 per sheet |
| Marine plywood | 8 x 4 ft, by thickness | Material only | Supply across Pakistan | PKR 9,500 – 14,000 per sheet |

Plywood Sheets: Frequently Asked Questions
Plywood sheets are boards made from thin wood veneers glued in crossed layers, which makes them strong, stable and less likely to warp. They are used for beds, kitchens, shelves and structural parts of furniture, and can be faced with veneer, laminate or paint.
Both resist moisture, but marine or BWP plywood uses fully boil-waterproof glue and is intended for very damp conditions, while BWR uses boil-water-resistant glue and suits kitchens and bathrooms. Marine grade costs more, so use it only where water exposure is heavy.
18 mm is the standard for carcasses, beds and doors, 12 mm for shelves and partitions, and 6 mm or 9 mm for backs and panelling. Heavy loads or long spans need thicker board or extra support, regardless of grade.
For strength, screw-holding and moisture, usually yes. MDF is flatter and smoother, so it is better for painted doors and shaped panels in dry rooms. Many jobs use both: plywood for the structure and MDF or laminate for the visible faces.
Inspect the cut edge for even layers without gaps, check that the sheet is flat and reasonably heavy, and measure the real thickness. Ask the dealer to state the grade, glue type and brand on the invoice so you can hold them to it.
Send the grade, thickness, size and quantity on WhatsApp. We reply with a written rate per sheet that is current on that day, and we can suggest the right grade and thickness if you tell us which room and which piece of furniture it is for.
