SS Kitchen Sink in Pakistan: Stainless Steel Grades, Gauge Thickness, Single and Double Bowl, Drainboard, Undermount and Drop-In Types and Rates
An SS kitchen sink is a stainless steel sink, the most common choice in Pakistani kitchens because it is tough, hygienic and affordable. Prices range from about PKR 5,000 for a basic single bowl to PKR 30,900 for a heavy double bowl with drainboard, and the right choice depends on grade, gauge thickness and bowl layout. This page explains grades, gauge, bowls, mounting types and what to check. See also kitchen sinks and double kitchen sinks.
Cleaning and keeping the shine
Rinse the sink after use, wipe it dry with a soft cloth and clean with mild soap. Avoid steel wool and bleach, which scratch and stain stainless steel. Remove hard water marks with a little vinegar, then rinse. Clean along the grain of a brushed finish. Do not leave wet metal items or cut onions sitting in the bowl, because they can leave rust marks. A well cared for 304 grade sink stays good for many years.

Stainless steel grades
Most sinks use 304 grade, which has chromium and nickel and resists rust and stains. Cheaper sinks may use 201 grade, which has less nickel and can rust or stain sooner. A magnet sticks weakly to 304 and more strongly to 201, but ask for the grade in writing.
Gauge thickness
Gauge shows thickness, and a lower gauge number is thicker. A thicker sink, around 18 or 16 gauge, is quieter and dents less than a thin 22 gauge sink. For daily Pakistani cooking, thicker steel is worth the extra cost.

Single or double bowl
A single large bowl fits big pots and trays, while a double bowl lets you wash and rinse at the same time. A drainboard gives a place for dishes to dry. Choose by the space in your counter. See double kitchen sinks for detail.
Drop-in or undermount
A drop-in sink sits on top of the counter with a rim and is easy to fit. An undermount sink is fitted under a stone counter for a clean edge, but needs a polished cut-out. See kitchen slabs for counter cut-outs.
Finish
Satin or brushed finishes hide scratches and water marks. Mirror finishes look bright but show every mark. Check that the corners are rounded and the surface is even.
