What the most used pipes are
- PVC pressure pipe. Cold water lines.
- PVC drainage pipe. Waste and sewer.
- PPR pipe. Hot and cold water in new homes.
- CPVC and HDPE. Special hot water and underground uses.
- Conduit pipe. Electrical wiring.
Typical rates for the class
These indicative market ranges help you judge a quote. They are not a price list from the maker.
| Pipe | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| 20 mm PPR PN20, per metre | PKR 120 - 280 |
| 25 mm PPR PN20, per metre | PKR 190 - 420 |
| 20 mm PVC pressure, per metre | PKR 100 - 220 |
| 110 mm PVC drainage, per metre | PKR 600 - 1,200 |
| 20 mm conduit, per 3 m | PKR 80 - 180 |
Prices move with brand, model, size and stock. Use these ranges to judge a quote, then compare the exact model and what is included.

Printed marks to look for
A genuine pipe is printed along its length with the maker, size, pressure class, standard and batch or date. The print is sharp and consistent. A pipe with no print, a smudged print or a mismatch with the claimed class should be rejected.
Pressure classes
Choose the class for the use: PN20 PPR for hot and cold water, PN10 or PN16 PVC pressure pipe for cold water and correct drainage pipe for waste. A higher class has a thicker wall and costs more. Do not use drainage pipe for pressure lines.

Spotting fake or copied pipe
Popular names are copied. Compare weight and wall thickness with a known sample, check the printing and the colour, buy from an authorised dealer with an invoice and ask for the maker's test certificate for large orders. Be suspicious of prices far below the market.
Warranty
Ask for a written warranty, for example against manufacturing defects over a stated number of years, and the conditions, such as trained welding for PPR. Keep invoices and the plumber's details. See Master pipe notes.

Comparing makers
Compare two or three makers on class, wall thickness, printing, price and warranty. Use pipe and fittings from the same system. See PVC pipe brands for a checklist.
Buying checklist
- Write the sizes and lengths. With a 10 percent margin.
- Choose class for each use. Hot, cold or drain.
- Inspect samples. Print and wall thickness.
- Get an itemised invoice. With batch marks.
- Test after fitting. Pressure and water tests.
A final check
The best pipe in the wrong place or badly joined still leaks, so budget for a good plumber as well. Keep a sample of each pipe size and class you used, since matching old pipe later is easier with a sample than with a description. Plumbing and gas work should be done by licensed tradespeople and tested before it is covered.
