Floor styles that feel right in a bedroom
Wood-look porcelain planks are the most popular bedroom floor today. They give the warmth of timber without the termite and humidity worries, and the long plank shape makes a room look bigger when laid along its longest wall.
Matt marble-look porcelain suits a lighter, more formal room. Choose a matt or satin surface: polished tile is glary in the morning sun and slippery under socks.
Plain large-format tiles in sand, ivory or soft grey keep the floor quiet so the bed, curtains and furniture take the attention. A 24x24 or 32x32 inch tile with thin joints gives a calm, continuous surface.
A feature wall behind the bed
The wall behind the headboard is the one surface you look at when you walk in, so it is the natural place for a decorative tile. Ribbed or relief tiles in a soft colour add texture without pattern. Wood-look or stone-look tiles give a hotel-lobby feel. Keep the feature to the width of the bed plus a little on each side, and stop the tile at a neat height such as the top of the headboard or the ceiling.
Plan the wall sockets and bedside lamp positions before tiling. Cutting around a socket in a finished tile wall is slow work, and wires hidden behind a tiled feature are hard to reach later.

Colours that help you rest
Soft, low-contrast colours work best: warm beige, light taupe, pale grey, stone and muted sage. Strong reds and bright blues feel energetic and tend to tire people in a room meant for sleep. Dark floors look elegant, but they show dust and hair and make a small room feel smaller.
View samples under the bulbs you plan to use. A beige floor that looks warm in daylight can turn dull grey under cool white LEDs, so choose warm white bulbs of about 2700 to 3000K for bedrooms.
Cold floors and echo
Tile is a cold surface in a northern-city winter, and bare tile makes footsteps and voices bounce. Two simple fixes help. A good rug beside the bed and under the dressing area warms the places where bare feet land and softens sound. Heavy curtains and upholstered furniture do the rest of the work against echo.
If the bedroom sits above an occupied floor or beside a bathroom, tell the fixer to use a thin acoustic underlay under the adhesive bed where possible. It will not remove noise, but it takes the sharp edge off footfall.

Sizes, layout and skirting
Large tiles with narrow joints give the quietest look. Start laying from the centre of the doorway so the cuts fall at the room edges where furniture hides them. Straight layouts are calmer than diagonal ones, which add cost through extra cutting and waste.
Choose a skirting that matches or slightly contrasts the floor. A 4 inch tile skirting cut from the same tile looks seamless. Fix it after the floor so the joint line stays neat.
What bedroom tiles cost
These are common material rates in Pakistan. Labour changes with the layout and the size of the tile.
| Item | Rate (PKR) |
|---|---|
| Matt ceramic floor tile | PKR 90 - 180 |
| Wood-look porcelain plank | PKR 160 - 350 |
| Marble-look porcelain | PKR 200 - 450 |
| Textured wall tile | PKR 150 - 380 |
| Fixing labour, per sq ft | PKR 40 - 110 |

Fixing tips that save regret
Check the floor is level and dry before any tile is laid. A hollow-sounding tile today becomes a cracked tile next year, so ask the fixer to tap-test each tile as it goes down and to fill the adhesive bed fully rather than in spots. Leave the joints as the maker recommends and keep an expansion gap at the walls, hidden under the skirting.
Order ten percent extra, and store a few spare tiles from the same batch. A cracked tile five years from now is only easy to replace if the shade still matches.
Frequently Asked Questions
A matt wood-look or marble-look porcelain in a soft colour is the usual choice. It feels warmer to the eye than plain grey, resists scratches, and the matt surface is safe underfoot. Avoid polished tile, which glares in sunlight and can be slippery.
Tile does feel cold, but a rug beside the bed and in the dressing area fixes most of it. Porcelain is also easy to heat if you later add a portable heater, and it stays cool in summer, which many families prefer.
Large tiles such as 24x24 or 32x32 inch look calm because they leave few joints. In a small room, a 24x24 tile is easier to handle and cut. Long wood-look planks work well when laid along the length of the room.
Yes, if it stays soft in colour and texture. A ribbed or stone-look tile behind the headboard looks smart and wipes clean. Plan sockets and lamp points before the tile goes up so you do not have to cut around them later.
Add soft items: a good rug, heavy curtains, a fabric headboard and upholstered seating. These absorb sound. A thin acoustic underlay under the tile also takes the sharpness off footsteps, which helps most when the bedroom sits above another room or beside a busy corridor.
