Sliding Wardrobes: Track Systems, Door Panels, Sizes and What Drives the Cost

Sliding wardrobes use doors that glide along a track instead of swinging out, which saves floor space and suits narrow bedrooms, corridors and rooms where the bed is close to the wall. The track, rollers and door weight decide whether the wardrobe glides for years or jams within months. This guide explains the track systems, panel sizes, door finishes, noise and maintenance, and what moves the price. For hinged options, see bedroom wardrobe designs.

How sliding wardrobes work

Each door panel hangs from, or rolls on, a track, and panels overlap so only part of the wardrobe opens at once. Systems have two or more tracks, and soft-close dampers slow the panels at the ends. The quality of rollers and track is the main difference between good and poor systems.

Top-hung and bottom-rolling tracks

Two systems dominate.

Panel sizes and layout

Each panel is commonly about 2 to 3 ft wide, and the number of panels sets the wardrobe width. With two panels you can open only half, so for wide wardrobes use more panels or a mix of sliding and fixed sections. Plan the interior with the opening width in mind.

Door finishes

Laminate, acrylic, mirror, glass and lacquered finishes are common. Heavy mirror and glass panels need stronger tracks and rollers. See mirror wardrobes and glass wardrobes for those finishes.

Noise, maintenance and common faults

Clean the track regularly, check the rollers and lubricate lightly. Faults usually come from overloaded panels, bent tracks or worn rollers. Adjust panels so they hang level, and avoid forcing a jammed door.

Cost drivers

Price depends on the track brand, the panel weight, the finish and the number of panels. Fitted rates by quality are in wardrobe price in Pakistan, and a good sliding system usually adds to the figure for a hinged wardrobe of the same size.

How we quote

Send the room size, a sketch or photo and the finish you like. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists every item. Before you order, confirm the exact size or model, ask for the specification and warranty in writing, and compare totals including fitting and delivery rather than the item price alone. To get a close first estimate, clear the area, mark sockets, switches and pipe positions, note the ceiling height and photograph the space from two corners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, because the doors need no swing space, which helps when the bed or a wall is close. They open only part of the wardrobe at once, so plan the interior around the opening width and choose a quality track. Ask for the specification in writing so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

Top-hung doors hang from a strong header track, keep the floor clean and run quietly, while bottom-rolling doors roll on a floor track and carry heavy panels but collect dust. Choose by the panel weight and the strength of the structure above. Check the warranty terms and who honours them before you pay.

Panels are commonly about 2 to 3 ft wide, and the number of panels sets the wardrobe width. Wider panels are heavier and need stronger tracks. For wide wardrobes, use more panels or combine sliding and fixed sections. Measure carefully and confirm sizes with the supplier before ordering.

Common causes are dust or debris in the track, worn rollers, an overloaded panel or a misaligned door. Clean the track, lubricate rollers lightly and adjust the panel height. Replace worn rollers early before they damage the track.

Often yes, because tracks, rollers and heavy panels add cost, though the difference depends on the system and finish. A good system is worth paying for, since cheap tracks stick and wear out quickly. If in doubt, send a photo and the measurements and we will advise.

Send the room size, the wall you plan to use and a photo on WhatsApp. We confirm what we can supply and reply with a written rate that lists the boards, doors, hardware and fittings, so you can compare quotes from different suppliers on the same scope.
