Ramp Tiles: Anti-Slip Surfaces for Driveways, Parking Ramps and Entrances
Ramp tiles are the textured, grooved or heavy-duty tiles that keep wheels and feet from slipping on a sloped surface. A ramp is where a smooth tile does the most harm: a car cannot climb a wet glossy slope, and a person can fall on it. This page covers the tile types, slope limits, grooves and nosing, fixing and cost. Related pages: pavement tiles, exterior floor tiles and acid proof tiles.
Types of ramp tile
Textured anti-slip ceramic suits light-duty ramps and entrances. Grooved ramp porcelain, with deep parallel ridges, is made for car ramps and gives wheels a grip. Heavy-duty textured pavers, 60 to 80 mm thick, carry vehicles and allow water to drain. Choose by the load and the steepness of the slope.

What ramp tiles cost
These are typical rates in Pakistan.
| Item | Rate (PKR) |
|---|---|
| Textured anti-slip ceramic | PKR 100 - 200 |
| Grooved ramp porcelain | PKR 160 - 320 |
| Heavy-duty textured paver | PKR 120 - 300 |
| Anti-slip nosing or strip | PKR 200 - 700 |
| Fixing labour, per sq ft | PKR 50 - 120 |
Slope limits
Car ramps are normally between 1 in 6 and 1 in 8, and steeper than that is hard on the car's underside and on the tile. Wheelchair ramps need a gentler gradient, at most 1 in 12, with a handrail. Check the slope before choosing the tile, because a steep ramp needs a deeper groove and a very rough surface.

Grooves and nosing
Grooves run across the ramp so the tyre bites on the ridges, and water flows along the grooves to the edge. Choose ridges 5 to 10 mm deep for cars. Anti-slip nosing strips at the top and bottom of a pedestrian ramp mark the change in level. Make sure the groove direction matches the slope and not the other way round.
Fixing
Fix on a solid concrete base, with a bed of polymer-modified exterior adhesive on both the slab and the tile. Leave movement joints at the top and bottom, and fill with a flexible sealant. Keep the slope consistent, since a dip collects water and ice in cold areas. Let the adhesive cure fully, usually 48 hours, before driving on it.
Care
Sweep and hose often, since dirt in the grooves reduces grip. Scrub oil with a degreaser. Inspect the joints and the nosing every year and replace worn strips. In winter, in cold regions, clear snow and ice promptly.
Ramps for people and for cars
A pedestrian ramp needs a gentle slope, a handrail and a surface that grips even in wet shoes, while a car ramp needs deep grooves that bite under tyres. A shared ramp must satisfy both, so go with the stricter slope and a textured surface. In shaded spots, where moss grows, choose a rougher tile and plan regular cleaning, since the best grip is wasted if the surface is slick with algae.
What to check before buying
- Slip rating. R11 or higher for ramps.
- Load. Rated for vehicles if needed.
- Groove depth. Suited to the slope.
- Nosing. Included for pedestrian ramps.
- Thickness. At least 12 mm for porcelain.
Frequently Asked Questions
A grooved ramp porcelain or a heavy-duty textured paver, at least 12 mm thick for porcelain. Choose groove depth to suit the slope. Smooth or polished tile is dangerous on any ramp, wet or dry. Ask the maker for the load rating and the slip rating, and check them against your vehicle.
Car ramps are typically 1 in 6 to 1 in 8. Wheelchair ramps need no more than 1 in 12, with a handrail. A steeper slope needs a deeper groove and a rougher tile, and is harder on the car.
Across the slope, so tyres grip on the ridges and water drains along the grooves to the edge. Check the layout before fixing, since tiles laid with grooves in the wrong direction lose most of their grip. Ask the fitter to lay a few tiles dry first, so the direction can be checked before the adhesive goes on.
Textured anti-slip ceramic costs about PKR 100 to 200 per square foot, grooved ramp porcelain PKR 160 to 320, and heavy-duty textured pavers PKR 120 to 300. Nosing strips are PKR 200 to 700 and labour PKR 50 to 120.
Sweep and hose it regularly so dirt does not fill the grooves, scrub oil spills with a degreaser, and replace worn nosing strips. Choose a tile with a rated slip resistance and deep enough grooves for the slope. Treat shaded areas more often, since algae grows fastest where the sun does not reach.
Yes. We supply grooved ramp tiles, textured pavers and anti-slip nosing from stock and deliver across Pakistan. Send the ramp length, slope and use on WhatsApp and we will suggest suitable tiles and send a written rate with quantities listed.
