Wash Basin Taps Guide: Pillar, Mixer and Wall Types, Spout Height and Reach, Hole Count, Deck and Wall Mounting, Flow, Fitting, Brass Checks and Indicative Rates in Pakistan
Wash basin taps are the taps over a washroom basin, and the right ones match the basin's holes, give enough spout height and reach and use quality brass and cartridges. Prices run from about PKR 600 for a basic pillar tap to PKR 15,000 for a quality mixer. This page covers pillar, mixer and wall types, spout height and reach, hole count, deck and wall mounting, flow, fitting, brass checks and rates. For other taps see bathroom taps, automatic taps and washroom basin prices.

Hole count
Check how many holes your basin has: none for wall taps, one for a monobloc mixer and three for pillar taps or a three-hole mixer. The tap must match. Basins with one hole take single-lever mixers.

Spout height and reach
The spout should send water to the drain, not the basin wall. For standard basins, a short spout of 10 to 15 centimetres is fine. Vessel basins need taller taps, 20 to 30 centimetres. Check the clearance of the handle.
Deck or wall mounting
Deck-mounted taps fit on the basin or counter. Wall-mounted taps need pipes inside the wall at the right spacing and a spout long enough to reach the bowl. They free up counter space but are harder to change later.
Brass and cartridge
Brass bodies last longest, and zinc alloy is cheaper. A ceramic cartridge is smooth and drip-resistant. Check the plating and weight, and ask whether spare cartridges are sold locally. See bathroom taps for more checks.
Fitting
Use braided hoses of the right length and angle valves, tighten the fixing nut firmly and test for leaks. Fixed plumbing should be done by a licensed plumber.
What to check before buying
- Hole count. Matches your basin
- Spout reach. Water falls into the drain
- Body metal. Brass
- Warranty and spares. Written
Water saving
Choose a tap with an aerator and a lever handle that is easy to turn off. Fix drips quickly, since a dripping tap can waste thousands of litres a year. Consider a sensor tap in shared washrooms.
Before you decide
Count the holes, measure the basin and choose a brass tap with a ceramic cartridge. A well chosen basin tap is a small but important daily convenience.
