What makes a chimney different
A chimney hood is a slim, angled or T-shaped unit with a flue that runs to the ceiling or an outside duct. It captures smoke from the hob and extracts it, often with a front glass panel and a button, touch or sensor control.
Controls and auto-clean
Button, touch, hand-sensor and voice controls all work, and sensors are convenient with greasy hands. Auto-clean uses heat to melt grease into a tray and reduces filter cleaning. It helps, but the tray and the filters still need regular care.
Sizes and suction
Common sizes are about 24 to 36 in (60 to 90 cm). Match the width to the hob, and check the suction in cubic metres per hour. A motor with good bearings runs quieter and lasts longer.
Duct and fitting
Duct the chimney outside with a short, straight run of the recommended diameter. Fix it to a solid wall and keep the hood at the right height above the hob. Poor ducting is the most common reason a chimney underperforms.
