Shackle and body materials
Hardened steel shackles resist cutting, brass bodies resist rust and laminated steel bodies are strong. Thicker shackles take more force. A strong padlock on a weak hasp is no protection.

Match the shackle size to the hasp or chain. Common padlocks are 30 to 70 mm wide.
