Interior Designer in Pakistan Guide: What Designers Do, Fee Structures Per Square Foot and Percentage, Design Only Versus Turnkey, Contracts, Drawings and 3D Renders, Timelines, Red Flags and How to Hire for Your Home

📖 5 min read

An interior designer in Pakistan can save money and mistakes on a build or renovation, but fees, scope and deliverables vary widely, so agreeing them in writing matters more than the portfolio alone. Design fees commonly run from about PKR 100 to PKR 500 per square foot, and turnkey projects cost much more. This guide covers what designers do, fee structures per square foot and percentage, design only versus turnkey, contracts, drawings and 3D renders, timelines, red flags and how to hire for your home. It is a neutral guide, not a directory. For related pages see interior design Pakistan guide, kitchen interior design and bathroom interior design.

What an interior designer does

A designer plans layouts, selects materials, creates drawings and renders, coordinates trades and checks quality on site. Some only design and some manage the whole build.

Indicative fees

These ranges show common figures and vary by firm and project.

ItemIndicative figure
Design only, per sq ft of covered areaPKR 50 - 300
Design plus supervision, per sq ftPKR 200 - 500
Percentage of project cost8 - 15 percent
3D renders, per roomPKR 15,000 - 60,000
Turnkey fit-out, per sq ftPKR 1,800 - 6,000

Prices move with brand, model, size and stock. Use these ranges to judge a quote, then compare the exact model and what is included.

Design only versus turnkey

Design only gives you drawings and you hire contractors, while turnkey includes construction under one contract. Turnkey is simpler but harder to price-check.

Contracts and deliverables

Agree the scope, drawings, number of revisions, renders, site visits, timeline and payment stages in writing. Clarify who owns the drawings and what happens if you stop.

Drawings and 3D renders

Ask for floor plans, elevations, lighting and electrical layouts, ceiling plans and material schedules. Renders help visualise but drawings are what builders follow.

Timelines

Design takes 3 to 8 weeks for a home, and execution takes 2 to 6 months depending on size. Delays usually come from late decisions and materials.

Red flags

Beware of vague fees, pressure for large advances, no written scope, no completed projects to visit or promises of impossible deadlines. For anything involving gas, wiring or installation at height, use a qualified technician and follow the maker's instructions.

How to hire

  • Portfolio. Visit finished projects.
  • References. Speak to past clients.
  • Fees. Get a written breakdown.
  • Fit. Choose someone who listens to your budget.

Before you decide

Agree scope, drawings and payments in writing and visit finished work. Ask the contractor or seller for photographs of similar finished work, compare at least two itemised quotes on the same scope, and agree stage payments and a completion date in writing. Keep the invoice and any warranty, and inspect the finished work in daylight before the final payment. Write down your room size, budget, electricity tariff and must-have features before you visit a shop, compare at least two models on the same capacity and warranty terms, and check the warranty card, the service network in your area and the availability of spare parts. Ask for the full invoice with the model number, keep the box and accessories until the item has been tested at home, and inspect the delivered product for damage before the delivery person leaves. Prices change often with exchange rates, taxes and stock, so confirm the current figure before you decide, and be careful with very low prices that hide grey-market stock or missing warranty cover.
